Safety Issues in the Trailer

I talked to Mom on Sunday 7/6/08 about moving into town. I am concerned about their ability to be safe in the trailer, and how much maintenance the property requires. If there is a tornado, Dad would have a hard time getting down into the basement because he'd have to go outside and down the wooden stairs near the garage. There are many days he cannot navigate those stairs. Also, they are far from the hospital and from help. Mom said she's not concerned, they would be fine in case of a tornado. I disagreed strongly, but she doesn't seem to think it is an issue.

I forgot to mention that Duane and i went out to Mom & Dad's several weeks ago to look at building a stairway from the sliding back door (which is on the back side of the main floor of the trailer) to the basement entrance (back side of basement level). We were concerned because there had been a tornado watch the night before, and we knew that if they were put under a tornado warning, there was no way Dad would make it downstairs safely, as he would have to negotiate the front porch steps (4-5), walk the length of the trailer, cross a section of the gravel drive, and then descend 8-10 wooden stairs, cross a grassy area and the porch leading to the basement entrance, all with no light and presumably in driving rain. When Mom realized what we were doing, she was surprisingly (I thought!) uninterested, saying that God was going to send them money to complete the addition they had originally planned. This would include a two-story addition with a main-floor dining room and a lower floor enclosed entrance to the basement. She told me she knew that I didn't have the faith to believe know, but that the blessings would extend to us and our children when it happened. I can't get her to give me any specifics about how this promise from God came about, just the insistence that it will happen.
